“Too Good” — in which Drake raps about his “love” for someone being taken “for granted” — was released in 2016 when Serena was already dating her now-husband, Alexis Ohanian.
On Tuesday, Drake surprised fans by dropping 100 gigabytes of never-before-seen footage from his personal archives.

Featuring pictures, videos, and even three unreleased tracks, the newly released content — shared via a website called 100gigs.org — provides a behind-the-scenes look at Drake’s personal and professional life, including the recording process of some of his best-known albums and music videos.

Notably, one video shows Drake in the studio working on the track “Too Good,” which appeared on his 2016 album Views. In the clip, his mom, Sandi Graham, can be heard questioning the inspiration behind the songs on the record and how they relate to his “relationships.”

“This [song] is more about me and Serena,” Drake said in response, presumably talking about Serena Williams, whom he was rumored to have dated around 2015. “I gathered that,” his mom interjected with a laugh, prompting him to explain more about the songs inspired by his love life.

“It’s funny because when I make songs about women, I also make songs for them,” he said. “So, I know what kind of song to make — if I’m gonna talk about them, I’ll at least do them the justice of making them a song that they like. OK?”
Drake reassured his mom that Serena wouldn’t be upset by the song, saying: “I know Serena very well, and I know that she’ll hear it loud and clear, but she’ll also not hate me for it because it’s lighthearted.”
Hilariously, Sandi interrupted to remind her son that “she is seeing someone else” — presumably referring to Serena’s now-husband, Alexis Ohanian, whom she started dating in 2015.

In response, Drake brushed it off and said: “I don’t know, Mom.”
We don’t know much about Serena and Drake’s rumored romance, and neither has ever explicitly discussed it. They were known to be friends, and Drake had been seen supporting Serena at tennis matches since 2011. However, rumors of a relationship between them didn’t spark until August 2015, when they were seen kissing at a restaurant in Cincinnati.

“Too Good” — which ironically features vocals from Rihanna, another one of Drake’s exes — paints the picture of a somewhat dysfunctional relationship between two people who treat each other well but still feel that their love is taken for granted.

“I’m too good to you / I’m way too good to you / You take my love for granted / I just don’t understand it,” Drake and Rih sing on the chorus, seemingly representing both parties in the relationship.
Drake’s first verse appears to detail communication issues as distance grows in the relationship. In contrast, in the third and final verse, he seems intent on making the romance work — even if it’s more of a casual situation.

“Years go by too fast / I can’t keep track / How long did we last? / I feel bad for asking / It can’t end like this / We gotta take time with this,” Drake raps.
The final verse concludes: “And I wanna tell you my intentions / I wanna do the things that I mention / I wanna benefit from the friendship / I wanna get the late night message from you, from you / I put my hands around you / Gotta get a handle on you.”
Views dropped in April 2016, and Drake and Rihanna later achieved chart success with “Too Good,” which was released as a single from the album and peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 in September of that year.

As Drake’s mom notably pointed out in the video, Serena was dating Alexis when “Too Good” came out, and the pair were engaged by the end of 2016.

Although it seems that Drake and Serena’s relationship wasn’t serious, the “Hotline Bling” rapper raised eyebrows in 2022 when he appeared to shade Alexis on his song “Middle of the Ocean” from his collaboration album with 21 Savage, Her Loss.

On the track, Drake subtly hints at alleged conflict between himself and Alexis, diminishing him as a “groupie” in the process. “Sidebar, Serena, your husband a groupie / He claim we don’t got a problem but / No, boo, it is like you comin’ for sushi,” he raps.
The same day the song was released, Alexis seemed to respond to Drake’s apparent dig on X. “The reason I stay winning is because I’m relentless about being the absolute best at whatever I do — including being the best groupie for my wife & daughter,” he wrote in a thread.

“It’s cliche, but life changed when I became a husband + papa. It’s made me 100x better as a man and a businessman,” Alexis added.
After welcoming their first daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., in September 2017, Serena and Alexistied the knotin November that year. In August 2023, the coupleannounced the birthof their second daughter, Adira River Ohanian.
Only last month, Serena poked fun at Drake while presenting at the 2024 ESPYs. Referring to his feud with Kendrick Lamar, the tennis icon said: “If I’ve learned anything this year, it’s that none of us, not a single one of us, not even me, should ever pick a fight with Kendrick Lamar.”

Breaking out into a dance to Kendrick’s Drake diss track, “Not Like Us,” Serena quipped: “He will make your hometown not like you. The next time Drake sits courtside at a Raptors game, they’re going to Forrest Gump him. Seats taken.”
