John, the engine doesn't even have 2,000 hours on it. That's not "high time". Besides, you don't buy a 150/150 like this as an "investment" (at least I wouldn't).

You finish it the way you want it and FLY it... you don't sell it... maybe EVER!

Carl
there was a D 150/150 tail dragger nice paint low time engine LRT STOL I have been coveting for months. I even put 4JY up for sale cheap to try to make the deal happen and he was asking 34k.
I just think this is a bit high priced. The only thing missing is the disclaimer friend of owner. come to think of it most people that list planes on barnstormers don't own them they are helping there friends..

Carl, we paid $22,000 for our 150/150 with just a little over 100 hours on a MOH. We are ever hopeful that we will be able to sell it for at least what we purchased it for. There have been several 150/150's advertised since for right around $20,000 in pretty decent shape and better equipped then this one. In comparison, the asking price for this airplane is too high.

Compare it to how much money that has actually been put into it? That is a different story. And a shame, actually. I really feel sorry for the person that paid for the conversion. Just another case where buying a 150/150 already converted most definitely makes the better financial sense.

No disclaimer as I am not a friend, I have only talked to the son once, to the owner twice. It is just sitting at Tulare Airport. I imagine it will be put on some place and advertised. I was told by a someone who knows much of what has been said, that the price is too high. But don't we all want the higher price, at least when we are the seller. I sure did when I sold my C-150M! But I took what I could get, and moved on. However I ultimately will return to the 150 in the future - I've missed mine. Maybe I'd be in a better mood if the electricity in my NEW battery would magically get to the rest of my airplane!

There are a Number of Forces at work here I think

1. Its all about Supply and Demand - that pretty much goes for everything you can possibly buy too by the way - think about it, you guys have what, just over 300M people in the USA, we have not quite go to $21.5M

We are a long way away from just about everyone (except New Zealand, and I suppose Indonesia

2. Cost of freight, then... add the various intermediary sellers margins, taxes and so on, and up it goes - not to mention the usual inflated pricing for aircraft bits and pieces (Aviation Scalping C-150D 150/150 COMING UP FOR SALE IN CALIFORNIA (38) )

It's still pretty much cheaper for me to buy stuff from Aircraft Spruce, pay the exchange rate, the freight and I still get it cheaper than buying locally from our Aircraft parts suppliers - and the more I get, the cheaper (or bigger the variance) everything becomes....

I'll give you another horrifying example....

O-200 overhaul, depending on the US supplier in the US, I can have one landed here from around $12-$15K US (approx $18-20K Aus) - Hawker Pacific and/or Pacific Aviation here in Sydney are currently charging between $29K and $32K Aus for the same thing.

I recently priced a tyre for the Airedale - being British they used strange sizes 600x6.5 Checked locally, and the price was $495Aus from Pacific Aviation, went to Desser in the US, got a tyre and tube delivered to my door step for the equivalent of approx $190Aus...GO Figure!!!! C-150D 150/150 COMING UP FOR SALE IN CALIFORNIA (39)

Anyway, I could give you thousands of examples, and hence the reason when I get over your way, my bags are bulging with goodies for the return flight

Cheers

And most of us here in the USA look as Australia as the the place they would most likely like to live. Especially the pilot in me. What a place to own an airplane. Just looking at all those wide open spaces of your Outback. Gawd, we could have some fun there. I would think everybody would own an airplane in Australia!

Matt, GP Bill, I looked at buying a red T-craft at Oshkosh years ago. It was owned by an Aussie who'd spent the summer here flying literally all around our United States. He wanted very much to take it with him, but was told in no uncertain terms It couldn't enter Australia until the weight of the paperwork equalled the weight of the airplane.

I passed up a very good price, as It was to be sold that week, but I can't fit in a T-craft.

Life is short, eat dessert first.

My understanding is there is a bit of paperwork to go through, but provided that there is nothing owed on the aircraft from a US point of view, I don't believe its all that difficult to do, a couple of forms to fill out, and export certificate signed off... and your away.

I do have a desire to buy something in the US, spend a couple of months(if possible) flying it around enjoying the place, then packing it up in a box and sending it home - I will do it one day, just not too sure when.....

...I have always had the desire to own a J3 (or really, I should say, an L4), though having said that, I'm not sure that's the plane I want to fly the length and breadth of the US - might just take too damn long C-150D 150/150 COMING UP FOR SALE IN CALIFORNIA (55) .....then again, I suppose its depends on the amount of time I had available to travel around!!!

One day....yes, One day!!!!!! C-150D 150/150 COMING UP FOR SALE IN CALIFORNIA (56)

Oh, and Bill, yep your right, it is nice to fly around, but just remember, we do have wide open spaces and some very interesting place to go visit, but...we don't have the extremes of scenery you have over there - remembering our tallest mountain is only 7, yes Seven odd thousand feet (Mount Kosciuszko) - I still find it interesting that on the way to Clinton last year, I was landing a places that were more than 2000 feet higher C-150D 150/150 COMING UP FOR SALE IN CALIFORNIA (57) let alone flying to more than twice that height to get over some of them on the way back!!!!!
