Is it common to have problems with a 2005 Nissan Maxima? - Answers (2024)

Bought a 2005 Nissan Maxima because our 2004 Nissan Maxima had a vibration problem that could not be fixed. Saw that Nissan had complaints about 04, decided the 05 would be free of that problem. Not so, The 05 has vibration problems causing the steering wheel to jump up and down.

Vibrating BIG Safety Problem

Hey everyone. If your car 2004/05/06 has any vibration problem please email me. mattjohnsons@verizon.net or ffargee@aol.com or call 4258027691. My NEW car when I bought it a week after had the vibration problem when still or at high speed. Now a year and a half later 55k miles ( I drive a lot) they are refusing to do anything about it. Even though I had shown them the vehicle originally 4 times and they had not fixed it, even though an Independent Mechanic had stated that there is a problem. Now I'm trying to get Nissan North America to pay for what they are doing. I'm pursing Lemon Law but that I don't think is enough. If I can have a couple of REAL life people who have had this problem we could put them in bad Media on CNN and the big NEWS if they're not willing to pay for their damage. So please contact me cause we all deserve better making +30thousand dollar investment. We deserve better value and better care. Thanks Guys = ==

My '05 Maxima has 2 issues.

1: It has a ringing/squealing noise. They have said it was something welded that broke (does not give me confidence in the car). It has been in the shop twice for same issue, still makes the noise.

2. The shifting is rough, not smooth. You can feel it shift, and it shifts when it does not need to (example: going 20 mph and it shifts from 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 2nd, not a steady ride).

Yes, I have a 2005 Maxima with a vibration problem initially at all speeds now just a high speeds. Vehicle has been in 5 times. Steering rack adjusted, wheels rebalanced, new tires, and dealer riveted shield under the front. Each time the issue has gotten better but continue to have vibration at high speeds. I have asked Nissan for a buy back. So far no luck. I will now pursue other avenues such as the Lemon Law.

I am also having this problem with my 2006 Nissan maxima(vibrations/shimmys).Nissan refuses to take responsibility for this major problem.Been to the dealer 3 times already and they cant even fix it.Since i took it off the lot,its been a problem. They stated to me it was just a wheel balance problem.Wheel balancing, changing all 4 rims and tires, cutting the rotors and still nothing.

I Have a 2005 Maxima with 3100 miles. It also has the vibration (steering wheel shimmy) problem at 60mph. But that is the least of my issues. It sprung an oil leak. Brought it in to the dealer they told me it needs a rear main oil seal. Brought it in for that and they diagnosed that it wasn't the seal, that the oil leak was coming from somewhere up near the intake? So far the car has been in their possession for 10 days. Thank god they gave me a lot car to use. Now it is approaching 18 days and they finally tell me the problem was actually a mfg. defect a bolt was stripped in the aluminum block and the bottom half of the motor needs to be replaced. I told them that this is unacceptable and I want a new car (what I paid $27k for)not one with a re-built engine and I want to be reimbursed for the payment I made this month while it is sitting in the Dealership. So now I am awaiting Nissan North America's response. Now the car is at the dealer for 20 days, which constitutes the lemon law. I will await their decision and if I don't get what I am asking for I will pursue legal action.

I have a 2006 Maxima SE with 29000 miles, i just bought it used off the lot 3 days ago, and i have the problem as well (steering wheel shimmy) and ringing in the wheels, transmission also shifts roughly and does not engage when car first starts driving, i have not taken it to the shop yet, if you ask me i am ready to turn it back in. i spent 22K for the car...so there is definitely an issue with these Maximas, and i think they should pay for what they are doing.

I have a 2004 Maxima with ~60,000 miles.... it has had a vibration / rubbing noise coming from what sounds like the back right tire area for approximately that last 30,000 miles. Also, fairly recently the Power Steering seems to not perform as it should...making it more difficult to turn the wheel than it should be. The steering problem only seems to happen when in a parking lot and doesn't always happen. The sound coming from the back right tire is the most frustrating...we've had countless people look at it to figure out what is wrong, but nobody can find anything wrong with it. We had new tires put on and balanced around 45,000 miles and the noise and vibrations actually did get a little better, but not much and it quickly got back to it's old self. Any advice on this situation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A majority of you are having transmission or front axle problems. If you take your foot off the gas and it stops then it is most likely an axle. Take it to your local transmission shop or you can go to www.acdelco.com and find a service center that can repair your vehicle.

I have a 2004 Nissan Maxima I bought it with 22000 now I have 100000 on it still same. The bad part I only have 4 payments left it has the vibration also they blame rotor I change them still same. Tires tried different brands I had struts change still the same Nissan should stand behind there product or at least pay for this or do a recall something needs to be done.
