Robson was just 19 when he opened his first open-air bowling alley in Sanford back in the 1930s. It was the first alley in town, and a harbinger of things to come for the young entrepreneur. Robson of DeBary, a successful Sanford businessman for more than 40 years, died of cancer Wednesday. He was 84. He continued to run the bowling alley until he enlisted in the Army in 1943.

His job overseas was a somber one: heading the cleanup of the Nazi concentration camp in Dachau, Germany. "They turned the camp into a hospital," recalled his wife, Ruth Robson. "They filled wagons with the dead bodies and took them through town" to convince the unbelieving townspeople of the horrors of the Holocaust. "He didn't talk about it for a long, long time he'd get choked up about it," his wife said. Back home in Sanford in 1945, Robson opened Robson's Sporting Goods in downtown with uniforms for their spring training games in Sanford from 1945 to 1952, Ruth Robson said.

The store next door to the post office lasted 26 years, until it was destroyed by a fire in 1971, Ruth Robson said. Undaunted, her husband bought property on U.S. Highway 17-92 and built his second business, Robson Marine, which in time became the largest supplier of boats and outboard motors in the area, she said. For years, Harry Robson annually donated a new boat, outboard motor and trailer to both the Sanford Police and Fire Departments, his wife said. Robson closed the store in 1983 to build a 12-store strip mall, the Center Mall, on the site.

Once again, disaster struck. The mall stood in the path of the Central Florida GreeneWay and was taken by eminent do- MEMORY OF 1 MARCELLA ZAZINSKI March 6, 1929 September 3, 2003 Happy Birthday Mom If roses grow in Heaven, Lord, please pick a bunch for us. Go to OrlandoSentinel.com, click on Announcements, click on Obituaries and record your memories on Legacy.com By DAVID FLESHLER SOUTH FLORIDA SUN-SENTINEL TALLAHASSEE It was touted as a major environmental bill, an initiative to dramatically reduce pollution at the dirtiest power plants in several parts of the state. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection announced that the proposed Air Quality Improvement Act would "safeguard Florida's air and protect public health without increasing electric bills." But some energy industry experts say the bill actually could cost consumers hundreds of millions of dollars.

Included in the legislation He said the bill made the changes subject to oversight by the Florida Public Service Commission, which regulates utilities and could step in to prevent harm to the public. State Sen. Nancy Argenzia-no, R-Crystal River, the bill's sponsor, said she would withdraw support if she found it would hurt consumers. As drafted, the bill would apply only to Progress Energy, which operates plants in Tampa Bay and Central Florida, and to Florida Power Light, with plants in South Florida. David Fleshier is a reporter for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, a Tribune Publishing newspaper.

are six pages of rate regulations, drafted largely by Progress Energy Florida that could significantly change what consumers pay for electricity. DEP officials admit they don't understand how the rate changes would work. "The bill as drafted is not remotely good for consumers," said Mike Twomey, former lawyer for the Florida Public Service Commission and now president of Florida Utility Watch. Michael Cooke of the DEP said he didn't understand the parts of the bill that dealt with rates. He said it was drafted in collaboration with the utilities, mainly Progress Energy.
