our 2019 ford escape engine is saying that we need to shut the engine off
because the temp gage is reading overheating and it has been sitting for 24 hrs

If the engine has been idle for 24 hours and you're getting that message, it's obviously a defect somewhere. It's likely a defective engine coolant temperature sensor. Just have a mechanic diagnose this. It doesn't sound like something that's going to break the bank.

Also, a misrouted wire, likely for the coolant temperature sensor, could be touching something metal. This will force the temperature gauge to hot and make the computer think the engine is overheating, when it's not. Jim
